Demountable motorhomes combine the advantages of a trailer caravan and a motorcaravan.
It’s one unit on the road, but after you’ve pitched up at one of the best motorhome sites, the base vehicle can be driven out from underneath the body and used as a run-around. In addition, the decoupled base vehicle can be used during the week as a ‘daily driver’ and then move into motorcaravan mode for weekends and holidays. I’ve previously inducted the first demountable to sell in any number, the Suntrekker Demountable, into our Hall of Fame, and today, it’s the PRV Wildmoor (1999-2005) I’m turning my attention to.
Solihull-based Profab Recreational Vehicles (PRV) was an offshoot of Profab, a well-respected fabrication business serving mainly the aerospace industry, but also designing and building one-offs for many other service providers.

The proprietors were keen and experienced motorcaravanners themselves when they decided to build a range of demountable motorcaravan bodies, so they were bang on the money from the off. USPs were first, the exterior look. This was achieved by continuing the side walls down to sill level to ensure a high level of integration with the base vehicle. Second, the superb build quality and rigidity achieved by using an aluminium superstructure clad in marine-grade GRP.
Finally, although the default design was to fit on a single cab Tata Loadbeta, bespoke models could be made to fit any make and model of pick-up truck, including single, king and double cab variants.
See what I thought of another game-changing motorhome that I recently inducted into our Hall of Fame, the Swift Rio 320 & 340.
