King Charles III congratulates Caravan and Motorhome Club on Sandringham site reopening

King Charles III has sent a personal message of support to the Caravan and Motorhome Club on the official reopening of the club’s site at Sandringham.

The site has reopened at a time when many ‘van owners will be planning their tours, whether it be to the best motorhome sites across the UK or overseas via the ferry or Eurotunnel.

His Majesty said, “I was heartened to hear a little of the impact that your improvements will have on the local Sandringham and caravanning communities.”

The site, which lies on the Royal Estate, officially reopened at the end of March after the third redevelopment in its nigh-on 50-year history.

It was first opened on 1 July 1977 – the same year as the then Queen’s Silver Jubilee and the club’s 70th anniversary, having been developed to the club’s specification under the guidance of its then patron, HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

It was refurbished 20 years later, in 1997, and reopened by Prince Philip himself. Since then, the club says it has continued to develop the site to meet the changing needs of members while retaining its distinctive woodland character and unique setting within the Royal Estate.

Although the site had already reopened for visitors since July last year, the official reopening took place on 27 March and was led by club president Thomas Coke, the 8th Earl of Leicester, club chair David Turner, chief executive Harvey Alexander, and members of the club’s executive committee.
